We are at the early part of a year that is already shaping up to be an interesting year for fashion. This year's trends are a product of two distinct strands of how fashion aesthetics works. One stems from the high mountain of couture and high fashion and the other comes from the lowly streets of fashion capitals. Here are the 5 trends you are likely to see this year.
1. Pink and Red as the language of fashion and protest.
It is likely that we will see a lot of pink and red on the streets and on the runways. Pink being the color of feminism, breast cancer and overall women's' right to choose will be on the forefront of many fashion capitals and the biggest markets. Red, bolder the better will engulf you so might as well embrace it.
2. Slogan/ Monogrammed Jackets
It is inevitable that anything Dior does become a trend. You will see a lot of fashionistas sporting rough-around-the-edges straight jacket monogrammed to perfection.
3. Athleisure Enhanced
Athleisure was the top trend in fashion in 2016 so much so that it became a real word. This year we should see more designers amping up their collection with easy yoga pants with a flair borrowed from couture. From Chanel to Minkoff, athleisure is going to become a must.
4. Bardot Silhouette
This 50s sex symbol inspired trend will make fashionistas swoon. The bare-shouldered statement is here to stay and will only grow in stature. From fast fashion retailers like Top Shop to fashion giants like Gucci will be churning out bare-shouldered nostalgia.
5. Duster Coats
Whatever your style is duster coats will take over humanity. It is almost as inevitable as hammer pants. While we came to regret the hammer pants we are unlikely to regret duster coats.
