London Fashion Week SS17: Anya Hindmarch Marches On

By Lotus Ladegaard

Anya Hindmarch founded her global brand back in 1987 and has grown into a powerhouse of British expression; exclusive accessories, always presented with creativity and wit. She is the first accessories designer to hold an on-schedule London Fashion Week show. Her shows have previously featured models floating weightlessly above the catwalk, a male choir of a 120 men, models walking within an artful, moving Rubik’s cube and much more.

Anya Hindmarch SS17 collections were yet again shown on an untraditional catwalk, models walked a spiral shaped catwalk which towards the end became a bit monotone. Her colour palette was kept in pastel colours, but embellished with stronger colours. The belonging look walking with the accessories were also kept in pastel colours and with a minimalistic design. The styling worked well, but while Anya Hindmarch always strives to find beauty in the banal, I failed to see her usual wit that gives each piece a young and humoristic sophistication. The embellishments, while creative felt a bit crafty, and out of place.  Nevertheless, her SS17 collection will undoubtedly appeal to a young trendy fashionista that wants something with a little edge and a little more gravitas. Her smaller pieces were absolutely fabulous, embellished modestly and thus could easily be worn at many occasions. Her striped pieces will appeal to women of many ages and of different styles.

Anya Hindmarch is a force to be reckoned with and I am sure we will see many women around the world with one of her SS17 collection bags.
