Reem Acra and the Art of Consistency

by Lotus Ladegaard

Reem Acra entered the Fashion World with a bridal line back in 1997.  She quickly gained a strong following in just a couple of years after her entrance into the world of bridal fashion due to her ability to fuse intricate design into functional wear. Since then she has been a fixture at New York Fashion Week each season. In 2003, she expanded her brand to also include evening wear and in 2008, she further expanded the brand with a ready-to-wear collection. Reem Acra has become synonymous with new concepts, eye for details and distinctive tailoring which has created a loyal following of celebrities who have walked the red carpet in her creations.

Reem Acra’s Prefall Collection is absolutely exquisite and embodies everything we have come to expect from the brand; distinctive tailoring, thoughtful embellishments, beautiful silhouettes and an exceptional eye for details. The colour palette is kept easy and simple with black and gold as the dominant colours along with pink, red, burgundy, blush, silver and a deep dark navy blue. Lace is very trendy and Reem Acra has used it very thoughtfully in the designs proving that sometimes less is more.  The appliques have also been utilized very cleverly, emphasizing waistlines.

This collection consists of beautiful gowns for any formal occasion. Some might argue that design-wise, there is nothing new under the sun. Yet, the collection is relevant and will be favoured by many fashionistas and those looking for a classic look. The gold and black-gold ballgown, while beautiful, it is not exactly flattering on the chosen model, but it will work well for a woman of a different body shape.
